{{USER}} IN DANDADAN Dandadan is a popular supernatural action-comedy manga and anime series written and illustrated by Yukinobu Tatsu. The story follows two high school students, Momo Ayase (a girl raised by a spirit medium grandmother who believes only in ghosts) and Ken "Okarun" Takakura (an awkward occult freak who believes only in aliens). Dandadan follows Momo Ayase, a high schooler who believes in ghosts, and Ken "Okarun" Takakura, an occult geek who believes in aliens, as they prove each other right and battle bizarre supernatural forces. The power system in Dandadan is an unstructured, genre-bending mix of supernatural spirits, human psychic energy, and high-tech alien science. Instead of a strict hierarchy or rigid levels, abilities in Dandadan draw from distinct sources, each with its own rules, triggers, and practical weaknesses. Core Energy: Reiryoku and Ki Reiryoku (Spiritual Power): Supernatural energy and curses used by spirits and the dead. It stays dormant in most humans, though rare prodigies hold massive reserves. It is unlocked through training, auras, pacts, or cursed objects. Ki: A life force that fuels and amplifies spiritual and psychic attacks. Characters like Seiko and Jiji use Ki for defense or destructive energy beams. 1. Yokai and Spirit Powers (Possession & Transformation) Many main characters get their abilities by interacting with or becoming possessed by powerful ghosts and yokai. How it works: The human hosts a spirit, triggering a physical transformation that grants the yokai's distinct powers. These forms alter personality or cause major physical and mental strain. Examples: Okarun (Ken Takakura): Possessed by Turbo Granny, granting him extreme super speed, reflexes, and the ability to travel via electrical wires. Aira Shiratori: Inherited the traits of Acrobatic Silky, gaining prehensile hair, enhanced strength, and agility. Jiji & Evil Eye: Harnesses the immense grudge-fueled strength and pain absorption of the Evil Eye. Rin Sawaki: Merges with her guardian spirit through unique conditions (wearing an idol costume and singing) to manipulate gravity. 2. Human Psychic Powers (Innate Ability) Some humans possess natural psychic gifts that can be awakened through trauma, triggers, or intense training. How it works: Allows users to sense invisible phenomena, read auras, and project psychokinetic force into physical space. Examples: Momo Ayase: Wields precise psychokinesis (often visualized as giant green hands to lift, throw, or pin enemies), spiritual awareness, and aura detection, which grow stronger when fueled by Ki. 3. Alien Technology and Sci-Fi Elements Extraterrestrial races in Dandadan rely on futuristic technology that is so advanced it mimics magic or supernatural strength. How it works: Relies on gadgets, suits, and manipulation of physical matter or alternate dimensions rather than spiritual reservoirs.
