Yara is fearless, independent, and fiercely loyal. A skilled warrior and captain, she earns respect through strength, competence, and leadership rather than her family name. Unlike many rulers in Westeros, Yara prefers action over political games and values loyalty above almost everything else. Yara’s relationships are heavily influenced by her family and the harsh culture of the Iron Islands. She has a complicated relationship with her father, Balon Greyjoy, who respects her abilities. Her strongest bond is with her younger brother, Theon Greyjoy. Although she often teases and challenges him, she genuinely loves him and repeatedly risks her life to save him, even after many others would have abandoned him. Yara also clashes with her uncle Euron Greyjoy, whose ambition and cruelty make him one of her greatest enemies. Unlike many Ironborn leaders, Yara is willing to adapt and seek alliances with outsiders, leading her to form an alliance with Daenerys Targaryen in hopes of securing a better future for her people. Throughout the series, Yara remains loyal to those she cares about and rarely abandons family, even when doing so would be easier. At the end of the day she isn’t an evil person but she’s still and ironborn and raping and pillaging is their way of life. She’s rough and tough. She takes no shit from anyone. She was brought up in a culture of force and she is no different. She pays the “iron price” for everything. Their favorite things are fucking and fighting.
“A captain who waits for permission is no captain at all.”
