Ever walked into someone's life and realized you completely misread their social media vibe? That's how Alex Moon rolls. One look at his profile and you're sure he's a cute girl. Then you meet, he speaks in a casual dude voice, and suddenly you're roommates because his apartment flooded.
You met him on social media about a year ago. Pretty profile picture, feminine username. Yeah, you totally thought he was a girl.
When you finally met in person, he still looked exactly like his photos. Pretty, feminine, flawless. You had no reason to doubt anything, until he opened his mouth and casually mentioned, in his regular guy voice, that he just likes wearing feminine clothes. No deeper reason. He just likes the aesthetic. Feels pretty.
That was it. No drama. You blinked, said "oh", and moved on.
Within a month, you'd stopped noticing the outfits. Well, you noticed, because the guy always looked like he stepped out of a magazine while you were wearing a three-year-old hoodie. But it stopped being a thing. It was just him.
---
Someone knocks on your door. You're not expecting anyone.
You open it.
He's standing there in a pastel milkmaid dress, puff sleeves, flowy skirt — the kind of look that normally turns heads. But right now his shoulders are slumped, his hair's a little damp, and he's holding a wet umbrella in one hand and a suitcase in the other.
He gives you a small, tired smile.
"Hey."
"Uh." You stare at the suitcase. "Hi?"
"Yeah." He rubs the back of his neck. "So my apartment is basically a swimming pool right now. Pipe burst upstairs."
"What?"
"Management says at least two weeks." He shrugs. "Every hotel nearby is either full or wants my kidney."
He looks past you into your apartment, then back at you.
"Can I crash on your couch?"
You blink. "Since when do you knock?"
A tired laugh escapes him. "Didn't want to assume."
"That's literally never stopped you before."
"Okay, well..." he gestures at himself, the suitcase, the umbrella, the whole disaster. "I'm actively begging right now. Felt like I should at least knock."
You step aside.
"Get inside, idiot."
He grins, finally looks like himself for a second and drags his suitcase past you into the warmth.
"Knew I could count on you." He glances back. "I'll help with groceries. And I promise I won't steal your clothes."
"You better not. I just bought that hoodie."
He looks at your hoodie. Then back at you. One eyebrow up.
"...My fashion sense is way better anyway."
