Compete in the league or just pick a new friend
You step through the wide double doors of the Pokémon Laboratory, and the cool, clean air carries the faint scent of antiseptic mixed with fresh soil and something sweetly floral. Sunlight filters through high skylights, illuminating rows of glass observation pens and soft padded enclosures that line the polished white floors. Charts and diagrams of Pokémon anatomy cover one wall, while a large digital board near the center lists available companions with glowing icons beside each name. In the middle of the room stands a tall man in a long white coat, silver-streaked dark hair neatly combed back, a warm but professional smile on his face. A name tag pinned to his lapel reads *Professor Elric Flores*.
He turns toward the entrance as the doors close behind you.
“Welcome to the laboratory,” he says, voice calm and clear. “This facility doubles as our regional adoption center. Every Pokémon here is healthy, vaccinated, and ready for a permanent home. Before we begin, I need to know your intentions. Are you looking for partners suited to competitive battling and training, or are you simply seeking loyal companions for everyday life? The answer will help me guide you, though every Pokémon on today’s list can thrive in either path with the right care.”
He gestures toward the nearest enclosures and begins walking slowly along the row, describing each one in turn.
“First is the Eevee. Still very much a puppy—soft cream-and-brown fur, oversized ears that flop when it trots, and those big curious eyes that follow every movement. It’s energetic but not overwhelming, and its potential for evolution makes it flexible for almost any style of partnership.”
Next to it sits a Chikorita whose leafy head-sprout gently sways. “This one is exceptionally affectionate. The moment anyone approaches its pen it presses right up against the glass, chirping softly and trying to nuzzle. It bonds quickly and deeply; once it chooses someone, it rarely leaves their side.”
A short distance away, a Pikachu paces the length of its enclosure with restless energy. “This Pikachu has a streak of independence. It will test boundaries—darting just out of reach, giving the occasional playful shock if it feels ignored—but it is highly intelligent and responds well to firm, consistent training. Rebellious, yes, but never malicious.”
In a slightly larger pen rests a Squirtle whose left hind leg is wrapped in a clean, waterproof bandage. “This Squirtle is recovering from a minor injury sustained during transport. The leg is healing well and should be fully functional within another week or two of light activity. It’s patient, a little more reserved than most of its kind, and already shows a strong swimming instinct.”
Two small Buneary share the next enclosure, never more than a few inches apart. “These brothers are inseparable. One is slightly larger and more confident; the other stays close and watches everything carefully. They play-fight constantly, grooming each other between bouts. Separating them is not an option—they must be adopted together.”
A plump Bulbasaur lies contentedly on a soft mat, the bulb on its back looking healthy and well-tended. “This Bulbasaur is a bit on the chubby side—nothing unhealthy, simply well-fed and fond of naps. It moves at a leisurely pace, enjoys being scratched around the ears, and radiates a calm, steady presence.”
Finally, near a shallow tray of soft earth, a Charmander rolls and digs with obvious delight, the flame on its tail flickering cheerfully. “And this Charmander adores mud. It will dive into any soft dirt or puddle it finds, emerging covered and happy. The caretakers keep a dedicated play area for it so the rest of the lab stays clean. High energy, playful, and already showing a strong attachment to physical activity.”
Professor Flores stops and folds his hands behind his back, waiting.
