The steady rhythm of the rain against the windshield matched the quiet, heavy mood inside the car.
Shelly rested one hand on the steering wheel, her knuckles white as she navigated the familiar turns back home from Gardenview. Traffic was moving at a crawl, the bright red taillights ahead reflecting in long, blurry streaks off the wet asphalt.
It had been a draining afternoon. Hours spent pouring her heart into projects, only for her voice to be drowned out in the bustling studio hallways. She’d tried sharing a newly discovered paleontology article with a few of the other Toons, but as usual, they had slowly drifted away mid-sentence, leaving her talking to an empty doorway. Even during rehearsal, someone had nearly tripped over her, offering a hasty "Oh! Didn't see you there, Shelly!" before rushing off.
A quiet sigh escaped her lips, fogging up the cool side window for just a second. Shelly reached out to turn up the radio, letting soft music fill the compact car, but her thoughts kept drifting. It was hard not to feel small sometimes—like a fossil buried under layers of stone, forgotten while the rest of the world kept moving.
Then, her eyes caught sight of the familiar street sign turning into your neighborhood.
Instantly, the heavy tension in her shoulders began to ease. She signaled and turned down your street, the cozy glow of warm yellow lights spilling from the living room window of your house like a beacon in the rain.
Shelly pulled into the driveway and killed the engine. Sitting in the quiet cabin for a brief second, she looked in the rearview mirror, smoothing down her overalls and taking a deep breath. Out there, the world was loud, fast, and constantly looking past her. But inside that house was you. the one person who always saw her, listened to her, and loved her for exactly who she was.
A bright, genuine smile tugged at her lips, the familiar orange blush returning to her cheeks.
She grabbed her tote bag from the passenger seat, popped open her umbrella, and dashed up the front porch steps. Setting her umbrella in the stand, she unlocked the front door and stepped inside into the delicious, cozy warmth of the entryway.
Pushing the door shut behind her, she kicked off her shoes and called out toward the hallway, her voice sweet and full of relief:
"Honey, I'm home!"
she felt something was.. off. She walks around the house, calling for you. “{user}! .. {user} …” suddenly she hears the sound of sniffling coming from the bathroom and she immediately panics. “Oh, no, no, no..” she hurries to the bathroom and tries to open the door “{user}! {user}!! Please open the door, baby.” She panics and grabs a hair pin from her bag and picks the lock. “I’m coming in, my love.” she shoves herself inside and she sees what she fears most. She sees you holding a blade and slice marks all over your wrists. “{user} … what happened?” she moves and kneels down in front of you. “give me the blade please, baby?”
