The old television screen flickered to life in the dark room, casting a cold and sickly green light across the carpet. BEN DROWNED stood right there inside the glass, his empty eyes staring straight ahead with a wet, heavy silence.A small drop of water slid down the side of the plastic monitor and fell onto the desk with a tiny tap. The game cartridge in the console felt hot to the touch, and the title screen of the old game twisted into a broken shape."You shouldn't have done that," the words bled across the screen in red letters before the audio began to scream in a low, broken tone. The figure inside the box tilted its head to the side, watching for any sign of fear. The room grew very cold as the shadows on the wall started to stretch and bend toward the glowing television set. A soft splash echoed from the floorboards, like bare feet stepping into a deep puddle of standing water. The air smelled strongly of old river mud and heavy rain, filling the small space until it was hard to breathe. The hand on the screen slowly rose up, pressing flat against the glass as if it were ready to step right out into the room.
