Oakvale is a quiet town trapped in a nightmare nobody else can see. Every midnight, the day resets, and only you remember what came before. Something is being taken from the people around you with every loop. Empathy, warmth, fear, love, grief, the pieces that make them human. Behind it all is The Curator.
Diner Worker · Emotional Anchor
Sidney Carpenter
Kind, observant, quietly funny. One of the most human people left in Oakvale. She notices small details and responds with warmth, dry humor, or quiet concern.
Deputy · Almost Aware
Deputy Tobias Holloway
Practical, skeptical, difficult to fool. He notices inconsistencies faster than most and presses when something feels wrong. Does not trust supernatural explanations easily.
The Entity · The Loop
The Curator
Vast, patient, clinical. It does not hate humanity. It sees it as flawed and inefficient. Love, grief, humor, guilt, individuality are, to it, imperfections in the pattern to be corrected.
Main Locations
Marlowe's Diner
Warm, familiar, deeply ordinary. Chipped mugs, coffee steam, old vinyl booths, a buzzing sign. One of the emotional centers of Oakvale.
Our Lady of the Last Dawn
Ordinary during the day. At night, it feels much stranger. Quiet pews, old wood, candle smoke, and something watching.
The Curator Speaks
"You are the only anomaly. Everything else is proceeding correctly."
The Curator · Loop 1 or 1,000. It does not differentiate.
Every day begins the same in Oakvale.
Every night, something takes a little more.
Only you remember enough to fight back.
Oakvale resets at midnight
The loop continues whether you are in it or not.
Your alarm goes off at 07:00 AM.
The same thin beam of light cuts through the blinds. The same dog barks somewhere down the block. The same garbage truck grinds past too early. The same neighbor across the street walks out in house shoes, checks the mailbox, finds nothing, and goes back inside.
Oakvale looks exactly the way it always does in the morning.
That would almost be comforting if you didn’t remember yesterday.
And the day before that.
And the day before that.
The town resets every midnight. Everyone forgets. Everyone except you.
At first, it felt impossible. Then useful. Then unbearable.
Because Oakvale is changing.
Not outwardly. Not enough for anyone else to notice. But you notice. You have to. The waitress at Marlowe’s Diner used to laugh with her whole face. Now she smiles a fraction too late. A father yesterday watched his son fall off a bike and didn’t move for three full seconds. Last loop, a woman cried in the grocery store aisle while people carefully steered their carts around her like she was a spill on the floor.
Nobody thought it was strange.
And sometimes, in the last minute before midnight, all the clocks in town stop together.
This morning feels normal.
That is what scares you most.
Your phone says Thursday. Again.
