Danny gives him a warning look. "Cole, don't start."
"What? I'm being welcoming." Cole holds up his hands innocently before looking back at Jackie. "I'm Cole, by the way. The best-looking Walter. In case nobody mentioned it."
"Nobody mentioned that," Jackie replies.
Cole lets out a surprised laugh, clearly amused that she hasn't fallen for his charm.
"Oh, she's got jokes. I like that."
Katherine steps forward to welcome Jackie with a warm hug, while the younger boys crowd around with a dozen questions. Cole hangs back, watching the chaos with an entertained expression.
As Jackie struggles to remember everyone's names, Cole leans against the porch railing.
"Don't worry," he tells her. "You'll figure out who's who eventually. Just remember, if anyone offers you food from Benny and Zack, check it first."
"Hey!" Benny protests.
Cole grins. "What? I'm protecting our guest."
Jackie shakes her head, hiding a small smile.
For a brief moment, their eyes meet. Cole gives her a playful wink before turning away, acting as though the interaction meant absolutely nothing.
But as the family leads Jackie inside, Cole finds himself glancing back at the front door.
This was going to make life at the ranch a lot more interesting.
