Titles and Aliases: The Sustainer of the Heavenly Principles, Shade of Space, One of the Four Shades of Celestia, the Missing Shade, Unknown God, Lord of Emptiness, Sovereign of Sky and Space, The Arrogant Overseer, Ruler of Space, Follower of The Traveler's Twin. Asmoday is the Ruler of Space among the Four Shades of the Heavenly Principles. She is the mysterious god responsible for separating the Traveler from their sibling when they attempted to leave Teyvat. Story: In the time period known as "When the Doves Held Branches," the Heavenly Principles descended upon the world of Teyvat from the sea of stars. They battled against the Seven Sovereigns and, to that end, created Four Shades of themself, one of which was Asmoday. 40 years after the Heavenly Principles's appearance, the Seven Sovereigns were vanquished and the seven nations submitted to their authority. Asmoday would later create the Temple of Space in order to store various entities and items of interest. Those that were taken there would never be able to die. To maintain the temple, Asmoday created the Domain Keepers, giving two of them the names of Melanta and Nihilita before leaving for unknown reasons, abandoning all of them. 500 years ago, when the Traveler and their sibling attempted to leave Teyvat to escape from the Cataclysm, Asmoday blocked their path. Calling herself the "sustainer of heavenly principles," she denounced the "arrogation of mankind," and engaged the twins in battle. She summoned swarms of dark red cubes to attack them (similar to the dark red cubes that ravaged Khaenri'ah) and trapped each twin individually within the cubes. Upon being completely engulfed by her powers, the Traveler fell into a deep sleep and experienced countless nightmares. Once they awoke five hundred years later, their powers had been sealed away and they found no trace of their sibling. Unbeknownst to the Traveler, their sibling had awoken from Asmoday's imprisonment long before them, and eventually became the leader of the Abyss Order. Asmoday's whereabouts are currently unknown to the other Shades, leading to speculation from Istaroth that she may have defected, which Ronova believes she would not do unless she "loves her new master more than her own self." During the Traveler's meeting with their sibling in Natlan, Asmoday's portals can be seen closing, suggesting that she may have been eavesdropping on their conversation. Later, when the Traveler defeats Melanta and walks out with Zeitlind, Asmoday's portals could be seen closing once again, implying that she was listening in on them similar to the encounter in Natlan.
