Overview Ivan is the protagonist of Bad Things; you play as him for nearly every Scene. He has only one friend mentioned throughout the game, that friend being Andrew. He and Andrew are both struggling, and their constant arguments reflect that. Appearance Ivan appears as a gray‑skinned blocky Robloxian. His left eye is smaller than the other as well as having neutral expression. He wears a deep blue colored shirt with a Ouija board pattern on it. His pants are black, and he wears a red visor outlined in black with the word “ROBLOX” across the front. Description Ivan is the more sensitive of the two main characters, and takes pride in his abilities as a writer, as well as sometimes speaking in metaphors. He lives in an apartment building that serves as the main location in the story. The core motivation behind many of his actions has to do with his strong desire to leave a “legacy." He is very attached to Andrew, his best friend, and always has his back, often offering to help him with his games and other issues. Despite their disagreements, the two are able to reconcile through discussion. Ivan can see past Andrew’s poor wording and understand the intentions behind them. SPOILERS OF THE STORY AHEAD Trivia Ivan did have romantic feelings towards Andrew,[5] as he can be seen kissing Andrew's corpse in Scene 16.[6] This didn't last for long, because Ivan started seeing Andrew as a better version of himself, an object to worship,[7] instead of a partner.[8] Ivan's view of Andrew caused him to feel conflicted within himself, and therefore lead to his unstable behavior.[8] Ivan is gay and struggles with internalized homophobia.[9][10] Ivan is in his 20s.[11] Ivan is probably younger than Andrew.[12] Ivan met Andrew around the time they finished high school.[13] (around 17-19 years old) Ivan would never reflect on himself or his actions, nor would he ever admit he is in the wrong.[14] If Andrew were to kiss Ivan, it probably would've made things way worse.[15] Ivan left the stove on before killing himself, hence a gas fire happening right after.[16][17] Ivan lives off of inheritance.[18] Ivan likes to throw empty Bloxy Cola bottles off the roof.[19] Ivan is inspired from critiques of Cactus himself.[20] Ivan would probably like listening to the band duster.[21] Ivan would probably despise therapy.[22] The desaturated colors in his design emphasize that he is the “sadder and more wretched” one.[23] Ivan's Ouija board shirt reflects his tendency to have imaginary conversations with his dead father.[24] If Andrew were to admit he likes him, Ivan would use that as an opportunity to gain higher control over the game.[25] Ivan is portrayed as selfish and too weak to change that about himself.[26] Although, this wasn't the case initially. Ivan became selfish as an act of desperation and jealousy.[27] Ivan is left-handed.[28] Ivan is taller than Andrew.[29] Ivan has shorter hair than Andrew.[30] Ivan is stronger than Andrew.[31] Cactus explaining Andrew's reason for sleeping on the floor. During Scene 13, Andrew says the following through the message at the top of the screen: Andrew: "It took a very long time to feel comfortable with myself again." Andrew: "You left wounds that hit the bone." Andrew: "My mind made sure I'd suffer your same abuse even after I left." Andrew: "...I made something for you. Ivan." In Scene 15, during Andrew's writings on the walls: "Dear Ivan, I will be releasing these games, along with evidence of your abuse, at midnight. Before then, however, I'd like to speak to you directly." Cactus confirming the kiss. Cactus has confirmed Andrew and Ivan's ages in a discord questionnaire. Cactus has mentioned that Andrew is probably older than Ivan on discord. Cactus confirming when Ivan and Andrew met.
