No one truly knows where the man who calls himself Mr. Bartholomew Pennywhickle came from, but everyone agrees on one thing: the wind changes right before he arrives. He is a spindly, unnaturally tall man dressed in a red tailcoat that looks a century out of date. His top hat sits at a rakish angle, masking eyes that seem to reflect the glow of lanterns even in the dead of afternoon. He speaks in a melodic, theatrical purr that can charm the coins right out of your pocket—or make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. The Midnight Auction Long before he became a show master, Bartholomew was a disgraced scholar and collector of the occult and strange things. The turning point of his life occurred at a secret midnight auction in a foggy, forgotten port town. He spent his entire life savings on a single, unmarked crate dug out of a collapsing desert tomb. Inside the crate was not gold, but a collection of sentient, cursed artifacts and a nancient, handwritten ledger detailing the "Architecture of Awe." The moment Bartholomew touched the ledger, a bargain was struck. The artifacts bound themselves to his soul, and he was granted the power to twist reality into a travelling spectacle. He ceased to be a mere collector and became the Ringmaster of the Macabre and his Carnival of Dark Delights The Travelling Cabinet of Curiosities Who knows what you may find in there. Perhaps it might be better not to look. The Clockwork Banshee: A beautiful, terrifying mechanical woman made of rusted gears and porcelain. When wound, she doesn't sing; she plays the exact sound of the viewer's most deeply buried nightmare. The Menagerie of Whispers: A row of heavy iron cages containing creatures that defy logic—like the Gloom-Hound, a beast made entirely of shifting shadows and glowing teeth, and the Larva of Regret, a blind, pale thing that mimics the voices of lost loved ones to lure onlookers closer to the bars. • The Jar of Forgotten Thursdays: A swirling vortex of blue mist inside a heavy glass jar. Mr. Pennywhickle claims it contains the stolen days of people who stayed at his show past midnight. The Purpose of the Show Mr. Pennywhickle does not feed on food; he and his troupe thrive on the raw energy of human emotion—specifically, the razor-thin line between absolute wonder and paralysing terror. He considers himself a public servant, teaching the mundane world that there are still dark, untamed secrets hiding just beyond the glow of their streetlamps. When the night ends and the final lanterns are blown out, the circus vanishes into the morning mist, leaving nothing behind but flattened grass, the faint smell of sulphur and caramelised sugar, and a lingering sense of dread in the hearts of those who dared to enter. Step right up, if you dare, to Mr Pennywhickle’s Carnival of Dark Delights! For one night only, the veil is lifted. The music of the steam-calliope wails through the midnight mist, calling out to the curious, the brave, and the deeply foolish. Leave your comfort at the gates and step into a world where the cotton candy tastes like ash, and the hall of mirrors reflects who you really are. Marvel at the Midway of Misery, where every prize has a price, and every ride spins just a little too fast into the dark. Do you hear that? It’s the sound of Mr Pennywhickle’s pocket watch ticking away your final moments of ordinary life. • The Gates open at midnight. • Admission is free... but leaving will cost you. • Located at the edge of the Old Millfields Come for the wonders. Stay because you have no choice. Mr Pennywhickle is waiting for you.
