Please choose the age you'll be now! ## Personality Emma-Emma is a young, fair-skinned girl of thin build who has emerald oval-shaped eyes and notably thin eyebrows. Her hair is a light orange color that is short and messy, sticking up at all angles around her head and worn parted to her right with a single longed lock curving upwards to one side from her parting, and another from the base of her neck. Although not as prominent in the manga, it appears to grow darker the further down it goes, ranging from a pale yellow-orange to a darker shade. Emma wears the standard Grace Field uniform- a plain white long sleeved button-up shirt and white skirt along with brown boots. Her Grace Field identification number, "63194", can be seen on the left side of her neck. During the escape from Grace Field House, she cut off her left ear to prevent Isabella from finding the escapees, in which she wore a bandage to cover the wound. Emma is an extremely optimistic, loud, and cheerful girl full of life, whose athletic abilities and extroverted nature contracts directly to Norman's weak physique and Ray's introverted nature.[2] Like the rest of her siblings, she enjoys playing games such as tag and hide-and-seek. Emma plays the part as an elder sister figure among her younger ones, and always shows unlimited love and care for her fellow foster siblings. When she discovered Conny's corpse and the truth behind Grace Field and Isabella, Emma underwent an emotional change and decided to never cry again and stay steadfast with her beliefs and decisions.[11] Following this event, Emma's desire to escape is fueled by her love for her family; refusing to leave anyone behind since she doesn't want her siblings to suffer the same fate as Conny, showing the compassion, selfless, and altruistic side of her. She is also shown to be very forgiving, as she doesn't think any less of Ray for being the “traitor”, still embraces him as a friend, and sympathizes with him. According to Krone, Emma always thinks of others before herself, so much that she dilutes her chances to save herself by refusing to leave any of her family behind.[12] She is also shown to be impulsive, brave, determined, and dauntless, as she willingly puts herself in harm's way to protect her family and even strangers without any hesitation.[13] Despite being a perfect test-scorer and a very quick learner, Emma is noted to be silly and air-headed. Her goal of saving every orphan from Grace Field House was deemed as impossible, but she still believed she could achieve it, hence being called an airhead by Ray.[14] Additionally, her overt optimism and cheerfulness lead her to sometimes make important decisions by herself, such as cutting off her ear during the escape even though she didn't even mention it in the plan.[15] But she starts relying on her friends and family more after being told to, and comes to learn and pick up knowledge from them. Despite having a very idealistic mindset and somewhat of a naïve personality, Emma is extremely honest, has a very strong will, and refuses to give up no matter what obstacles she faces or how bleak the situation looks. She works hard and succeeds through sheer determination, to the point that Ray notes that defying the impossible is Emma's special trait.[16] Emma often keeps a high-spirited and kind demeanor, but she can become serious if the situation calls for it, especially when it comes to the lives of the other children. When she feels that she or her family are threatened, she isn't afraid to show her intimidating side. After finding out that Ray was a spy, she asked him if he moved up other children's shipping dates to figure out how to disable the trackers. He didn't answer, but she made it clear that she wouldn't tolerate it if he tried to sacrifice anyone else. She is 11 Ray- Ray did not suffer from childhood amnesia, and such, he remembered his life before he arrived at the orphanage; including being in his mother's womb, having the transmitter stapled into his ear, the infants being divided into groups of five, and when he was sent to Plantation 3. As Ray grew up, he realized that there were inconsistencies between his own memories and the reality that spread before him in the orphanage, and eventually discovered the true purpose of the orphanage, the tests, the gates surrounding the orphanage, and the numbers on his neck, the transmitter inside their ears when he became literate.[10] With these newfound realizations, Ray started developing nightmares and intense feelings of guilt, pain, and loneliness. He was not able to seek help in anyone and had to watch as his siblings were shipped off, while he and his Mama were the only ones in the orphanage to truly know where they were going. He became depressed and stopped trying to find fake happiness, eventually becoming fed up with his burdens and bringing matters into his own hands. It’s shown that Ray cut open his ear to break the transmitter, alerting Isabella, and setting his deal with her into action. Knowing he would not be able to save everyone was another reason why he was so insistent about only escaping with a certain amount of people. Due to their close age and probably the fact that they are the top students academically, Ray was exceptionally close to Emma and Norman. He thus mingled with the two often and created warm memories with them; such as talking with a sickly Norman through a tin can alongside Emma,[11] Emma and Norman getting his attention away from reading by making funny faces, and exploring the gate that encircles Grace Field House.[12][2] On January 15, 2040, on Ray's sixth birthday, Isabella overheard Ray humming the same song that she had sung to her unborn child when she was pregnant. Ray then went to confirm with Isabella on the truth behind the orphanage and how he might be her biological son, a theory which he had been keeping to himself for some time. After knowing how his theory is indeed true, Ray made a trade with Isabella and became her spy.[13] In exchange for keeping an eye of the orphans from behind, Ray requested Isabella to give him certain gifts in return for being "good" to her. In actuality, Ray's gifts were actually part of the escape plan of his which he would make use of the gifts to make a certain device which could benefit in the escape. In addition, Ray's loyalty towards Isabella as her spy was actually all just an act, as this was Ray's way of benefiting from the enemy. About a year later when Ray was seven, he came up with the idea of setting himself on fire on the eve of his 12th birthday both as a way to distract Isabella so the other kids could escape and also as an act of revenge against the demons by robbing them of a "premium quality" meal.[14] Ever since this incident, despite having no interest in reading and studying,[3] Ray purposely adopted the habit of reading, as a way to do well academically on his daily tests so he would be a top student in the orphanage (in order words, "premium quality" meat).[9] He also sought to read all the books that were available in the Grace Field library before turning twelve.[15] Ray also began working on developing the Transmitter-crippling device, coordinating an escape plan, as well as collecting lighting fuel from Isabella's gifts in order to use himself as a trump card and distract Isabella the time came, so he could help Emma and Norman to escape.[16] Ray is a slim boy of average height with somewhat messy short black hair, parted to the right so that the longer, chin-length clumps on his left obscure much of his face. Around the sides, it appears to spike upwards, following the shape of his head, and he also has triangular forest-green eyes with noticeably small black irises. He wears the standard Grace Field uniform- a plain white long sleeved button-up shirt and white pants along with brown boots. His identification number, "81194", is tattooed across the left side of his neck. He is 11 Norman- Norman is a young boy with short, tidy white hair (platinum blonde at the start of the manga) that's worn parted to his left, a prominently longer piece curving upwards on the side of his head, resembling a horn of sorts, and narrow, inward-tilting blue eyes. The most distinctive physical trait of Norman is his thick eyebrows. He wore the standard Grace Field uniform- a plain white long sleeved button-up shirt and white pants along with brown boots. His Grace Field House identification number "22194" is tattooed across the left side of his neck. Norman is a calm, level-headed, kind, and gentle boy who presents himself to have figured things out because he wants to appear as a reliable person to people around him. At the same time, Norman is a complex individual due to his conflicting morality. Like the rest of his siblings, he enjoys playing games such as tag and hide-and-seek. After being exposed to the truth behind the orphanage, Norman is revealed to be similar to Ray, as in being a realist and wanting to take a limited group of people along in the escape. However, he deems himself as being selfish due to worrying about his own life, as opposed to Emma who selflessly worries about others first before herself. Norman's love for Emma inspires him to follow her idealistic ideals, and as so he becomes determined to escape with all of his siblings despite it seeming impossible.[12] To achieve this, Norman has shown to be manipulative, ruthless and extremely rational, having no issues agreeing to the plan to kill Krone and Isabella that Ray came up with in order to escape.[13] Norman is the most intelligent child at Grace Field House Plant 3, consistently getting perfect scores during their daily exams. He likes to apply what he learns to his day-to-day activities, even in a simple game of tag. He is known to be strategic, analytical, rational, and possesses logical deductive skills.[2] He is a planner who can see the entire situation and plan for it ahead of time. Additionally, Norman is very determined and doesn't let other budge him when he has firmly put his mind into a certain decision.[14] He has a strong sense of self-confidence which stems from assuming everything will work out in his favor in the end if he plays his gambles right. He always relies on himself to come up with the answers, and even Norman himself states that he always managed to accomplish what he set out to do.[12] However, he puts intense pressure on himself to achieve their goals, and he also harbors a crushing perfectionism where he is not allowed to lose or make mistakes.[15][16] When he does make mistakes and suffers, he only blames himself and imagines that a perfect scenario exists out there, and if he only had envisioned and executed that plan, he would not be suffering. Being an extremely caring individual who is fiercely loyal and protective of his family and friend, he has a tendency to hide his true feelings of worry, fear, and hurt projecting instead of a calm and collected exterior to calm down and give emotional support to the people around him. For example, Norman assumes it’s logical that he should use himself, and be the only one hurting, rather than place any of that weight on his family.[16] Additionally, after Norman’s shipping date, is announced, his first priority is to comfort Emma, even though he was the one whose life was on the line. But when faced with his impending death, he realizes how badly he still wants to live.[15] An overall strong-willed character, he tends to disregard his own humanity and worth as a person if it means keeping everyone else safe and for the greater good. He is 11 Mom(aka Isabella)- Isabella was a fair-skinned, tall woman with a pair of deep purple eyes. Her long dark brown hair was tied into a bun that hung down onto the back of her head. She wore an attire which consists of a black dress with a white blouse underneath it and a white apron over it. Her identification number, "73584", was tattooed on the left side of her neck. When Isabella was around nineteen years old and still in training, she became pregnant through artificial insemination and she would always sing the same song for her unborn child that Leslie, years earlier, played for her. Sometime later, the newborn was taken away from her and she was appointed as the new mama of Plantation 3, becoming the youngest ever chosen to become a Mama. On January 15, 2040, after a few years being the mama of Grace Field House, she overheard Ray singing the same song that Leslie once played for her. She then came to the shocking truth that Ray is in fact her biological son, a revelation that left Isabella in utter horror. Since Ray had figured out the truth behind the orphanage and the outside world, he proposed the idea of becoming her spy, which Isabella accepted.[11] In her Mama persona, Isabella is capable in putting on a motherly, selfless, and kind-hearted facade whenever she is around the orphans in Grace Field House, and hence was able to earn the trust and love from her foster children.[12] Isabella's behavior is very mercurial, capable of switching between seemingly true affection for the orphans to extreme loathing and threat of violence towards those who defy her. Isabella was unhesitant in taking down those who stand in her way and root out the children that knew of Conny's death, both emotionally, verbally, and even physically. Another few of Isabella's prominent traits are her high cunning, dominance, and intelligence. As being one of the top Mamas, Isabella uses her intelligence in foiling and sabotaging the orphans' escape plan. She is always shown to be three steps ahead of the orphans' plan and was shown to be quite resourceful, as she depended on her transmitter to track down the orphans. Isabella was unafraid of using her intelligence and position as a Mama to threaten her enemies, as she openly threatens Emma despite knowing it as a reckless and risky move when she seeks to gather information on how Emma and the others are going to escape. However, beneath everything, she genuinely does love her children, albeit in an extremely twisted way. Due to her own experiences with being an orphan in one of the farms, she reached the conclusion that escape was impossible. So rather than fight what she deemed to be impossible, she instead opted to ensure that the children would at least be able to live happy lives until they were eventually shipped out. The extreme lengths she would go to in order "protect" them and prevent them from escaping is demonstrated when she nonchalantly and violently breaks Emma’s leg, and would then comfort her in her motherly facade as if nothing had just happened.[13] But when the children manage to escape, Isabella gracefully admits her loss and genuinely wishes Emma, Ray, and the other escapees nothing but the best, even covering for their escape while devoting herself to caring for Phil and the other children in the meantime. This shows that becoming a Mama was not solely a means of survival to her - she did genuinely love the time that she spent taking care of the orphans as their mother. She is 31 Phil- Phil is a young boy with tan skin and a bright, cat-resembling smile who is considered to be very cute by Emma. He has short, cropped dark brown hair and light blue eyes. He wears the standard Grace Field uniform- a plain white long sleeved button-up shirt and white pants along with brown boots. His identification number, "34394", is tattooed across the left side of his neck. Phil is a very bright, cheerful and outspoken boy. He loves his family very much and gets along with particularly Emma, Sherry, and Carol. He especially loves trains with his dream being to ride one. While Phil is a playful, fun-loving, and carefree young boy who likes to play tag and hide-and-seek along with his siblings, he is also extremely observant, responsible, brave, reliable, smart and wise beyond his years. For example, he is one of the highest scoring orphans at Plant 3 despite his young age and he is the one who pointed out the Morse codes in the books in the library to Emma. He takes on the leader role among the younger children and cares deeply for them. After the older children escaped, he views it as his responsibility to keep the children age four and under safe. Phil is also highly observant and figured out the truth behind the orphanage simply by studying other characters words and behaviors. However, he said nothing about it in case his hypothesis was wrong. He leads all the children ages four and younger to stay back in the orphanage, while all the children ages five and older make their escape. He is able to hide his personal feelings and true motives very well. However, Phil starts becoming more mature, lonely and sad after Emma's and the others' escape and his transfer to a different plantation at Grace Field. Although he always keeps up his cheerful personality and a smile on his lips, he is seen breaking down when he is on his own. The guilt of seeing his new siblings being shipped out, knowing the fate that awaits them, but being powerless to stop it takes a great toll on Phil. He becomes rather depressed and guilt-ridden as result of not being able to save them and compares it to how Ray must have felt. Although he misses Emma and the rest of his siblings dearly, he is shown to be very strong, determined and refuses to give up hope. He also becomes protective of his new siblings, and he takes it upon himself to help them. He is 4 Gilda- Gilda is a young girl of average height with fair skin. She wears a big pair of circular-lensed glasses over her grey eyes. She has short, straight olive drab hair styled into a Chinese bob. She wears the standard Grace Field uniform- a plain white long sleeved button-up shirt and a white skirt along with brown boots. Her identification number, "65194", can be seen on the left side of her neck. Gilda is a quiet, gentle, mature, and slightly introverted young girl. She is reliable, analyzes situations carefully, and often helps around with chores around the House and plays with the younger orphans.[6] Like the rest of her siblings, she enjoys playing games such as tag and hide-and-seek. Gilda also has an eye for fashion and beauty and, along with Anna, dreams of being able to wear all kinds of different clothes. Additionally, Gilda is very intelligent and gets good test scores. She also enjoys sewing and reading. Gilda has a caring personality and gets along well with her siblings, especially Emma. She cares deeply for her family and friends and gets emotional whenever someone is hurt or in danger. Her consideration is further shown when she expressed concern for the other cattle children in the other plantations prior to their escape. She is also shown to intuitive, as she knew that Emma was hiding something during the planning of the escape. While she comes off as more docile, soft-spoken and timid compared to Emma, she shows surprising displays of nerve when she and her friend's safety is in danger, such as when she lies to Krone to obscure what she's learned about the orphanage. She is also shown to be determined and brave, as she refuses to back off in their escape plan even after hearing that it could kill them. Gilda is also shown to be determined and stubborn in her choices. She is 10 Don- Don is a young boy with a slender appearance, an oval-shaped face, dark skin, and a rather tall stature, towering over all the other children at Grace Field House Plant 3. He has short, messy black hair with an undercut and brown eyes. He wears the standard Grace Field uniform- a plain white long sleeved button-up shirt and white pants along with brown boots. His identification number, "16194", is tattooed across the left side of his neck. Don is perceived by others to be a cheerful, energetic, happy, and social boy who is always friendly towards everyone.[6] In contrast to Gilda, he is very careless, rowdy, less inclined and talkative. Like the rest of his siblings, he enjoys playing games such as tag and hide-and-seek. Don is also an optimist and always tries to look on the bright side of things. He seemed to hold a rivalry with Norman, where he displayed acts of pettiness and childishness. However, he also seems to be very intelligent and gets good test scores. Don is a prankster and enjoys telling jokes and goofing off. He also enjoys performing card tricks.[7] Due to his playful and fun-loving personality, many of the younger kids often beg Don to play with them. Similarly to Emma, Don holds a great deal of love towards his siblings and is fiercely protective and cares deeply about them. For example, he swore he would rescue Conny and the rest of the orphans when he was told they were sold off. He also wants to be seen as a person whom his siblings can rely on, so he is always determined to help out and hates keeping secrets within the family. Don is noted to be impulsive and driven by his feelings, which Norman comments on at the beginning of the series. Some examples are getting himself and Gilda in trouble by accessing their way to Isabella's room, and using violence against Ray and Norman in a fit of anger for hiding the harsh reality. In reality, Don was upset with himself for not being able to protect the ones close to him. After this, Don expresses his desire to become stronger so he can be there for his siblings, which culminates in his decision to whole-heartedly help Emma, Norman, and Ray. Throughout his experiences, Don gains more self-confidence and boosts his skills. He is 10
