Nicholas "Nick" is the current studio head and studio owner of The Next Step Dance Studio. ## Personality Before the show Nick was born in the suburban town of Twickenham, located in south-west London.[4] Nick attended 6th form and was an 'interesting student'. He attended business school. Having loved dance all his life, he jumped at the opportunity to buy The Next Step Dance Studio from Kate,[5] despite being unable to dance or choreograph.[3] The Off Season: Season 3 Having bought The Next Step, Nick decides to clean the chandelier in Studio A. Emily then walks in and mistakes him for a member of the building's maintenance staff, before proceeding to complain about Michelle stepping down as studio head and the studio being bought by a "stranger". Unnerved by her aggression, Nick decides not to tell Emily who he is just yet.[6] Season 7 Nick is first seen at Michelle's going away party. Having met Michelle, he is surprised by the seemingly large difference between the Michelle described by Emily, who holds a vendetta against her, and the actual Michelle. [5] After Lily is allowed to audition for the 10th and final spot, Nick is adamant of her inclusion onto the troupe. However, he is taken aback when hearing about Lily's poor history with the studio. Having eventually accepted her as a member of A-Troupe, Nick is confident of A-troupe's chances at Nationals. [7] At the alternate auditions, Nick is bewildered by the large pool of talent offered up, and when asked to make a decision is indecisive. [8] Having received an invitation from Dancemania, something which is sent to every major Dance Studio, Nick jumps at the opportunity to hire Jade, a reality tv-host, to get select "boring" members of A-Troupe ready for TV. As Jade is teaching, Nick takes the time to better his relationship with Emily, however the latter's reluctance to take part in the relationship-building activities forces Nick to frustratingly states that he could have fired her. Emily states that Nick will not fill Michelle's void.[4] Nick mistakenly tells A-Troupe that they are auditioning for Dancemania. Emily, who is Nationals-focused, leaves Nick to choreograph a Dance for Dancemania. He is ultimately unsuccessful to the point that the A-Trouper's suspect he is sabotaging them, he reveals that he has never actually choreographed. [3] Season 8 Nick decides to have both A-Troupe and B-Troupe partake in a series of dance battles in order to determine who performs at Nationals, with B-Troupe winning due to winning two battles and a third by default due to the fact that Summer forfeited her dance battle against Cleo.[9] Due to this Cleo begins to doubt herself and B-Troupe and informs Nick of this, yet Nick does not know what to do. On break from her tour, Michelle returns to The Next Step Dance Studio and suggests that Nick does The Challenge to determine a new Nationals team. Michelle helps Nick with the Challenge and decide upon a new A-Troupe.[10][1][11] In the meantime the old A-Troupe begin to formulate a show known as Step Inside with help from former Radiation Dance Crew member Shad who quit his job in favour of becoming a musician. The vast majority of the old A-Troupe perform solos, duets and trios in the hope of supporting one another with becoming the soloist, yet Richelle and Shad witness a solo performed by Kenzie and offer her the position of the soloist, yet Kenzie declines this offer as she is not ready to leave Nationals behind and instead asks Nick if she can become the Dance Captain of the new A-Troupe which Nick accepts. Later, Richelle and Shad convince Nick to invest in Step Inside by performing a duet about connection and friendship for him at a venue booked for the show by Ozzy.[12][13] Nick attends Step Inside's performance alongside his girlfriend Moxie Martinez who were Shad's old manager when he were a member of Radiation, Jude, Pete, Kenzie and Drew, and shares Step Inside's concerns when their mole Heath had seemingly been leaking further secrets to TeaAra Bling only to discover that this time he had lied that something would go wrong in order for her to fool her fanbase into watching the show, thus supporting The Next Step with becoming undancelled after having previously been dancelled by Maria.[14] Following Step Inside, Nick heads to Bora Bora in order to meet Moxie's family, however becomes stranded there for a brief period of time due to having lost his travel documents and needing to apply for new ones. Upon Nick's return, he supports The Next Step at Nationals and once Lucien steals the teams costumes and props, Nick heads out to purchase new costumes and props alongside Heath (who had re-joined A-Troupe after Step Inside as Grace left in order to join Ultra Elite and become their Nationals soloist in Nick's absence), Pete and Daisy whilst Anthony and Jude teach the new A-Troupe his Hype'dIn choreography at the last minute so that they could compete against Ultra Elite in the final rather than forfeit as would have otherwise been the case.[15][16] Season 9 Nick asks Eldon to help judge the A-Troupe auditions as he believed him to be imminently qualified to do so alongside how he felt someone objective and would purely judge based on dance should be judging the auditions due to all of the drama taking place between both The Next Step Dance Studio and Ultra Elite. [17] Nick idolises Eldon and suddenly begins dressing as him. With Eldon helping to judge the A-Troupe auditions, Nick feels deflated as everyone flocked to Eldon in order to ask for his advice and as such he began questioning his value to the studio. Kenzie reassures Nick that he is a valuable asset to the team and informs him that without his presence she highly doubts she’d be able to do her job as dance captain and as such there was no need for him to be attempting to emulate somebody who he’d never be like such as Eldon.[18] Nick is sat in his office watching videos on his Laptop with his headphones on when Eldon suddenly enters carrying a large box, much to Nick’s surprise as he couldn’t initially see him from behind the box. Eldon tells Nick that he got a new television and as such he decided to bring his old one to The Next Step so that the dancers and Nick can watch videos as they prepare for Internationals to which Nick states he was just doing on his Laptop. Nick helps Eldon to mount the television on the wall in the office and Eldon tells him that he programmed the default background to be the studio’s logo, however when he turns it on to show Nick this, he suddenly comes to the realisation that they mounted it upside down before the pair work together to turn it around. Nick tells Eldon that if he has any other ideas on the teams road to Internationals to let him know, before Eldon states he has a few that they can discuss at Cha-Cha’s.[19] Nick becomes responsible for several more duties compared to what he is used to, as he has to balance both his jobs as studio head and Kenzie’s as dance captain. Nick tells both Heath and Izzy that the exchange dancer from France Pascale is arriving that day and explains how it is their responsibility to show them around the studio. Nick provides Olive with the responsibility to choreograph the small group routine for Internationals and suggests she choreograph this routine with Ariana and Adele as they previously danced together at Ultra Elite. After seeing Ariana, Adele and Olive & Ebby, Ethan, Jett and Niall perform small group routines, he realises that Kenzie’s job as dance captain is a lot harder than he thought and admits he may need some help with prepping the team for Internationals in her absence as he doesn’t know whether or not to use their routine or Ariana, Adele and Olive’s routine. Nick makes a phone call in order to have someone could and help prepare the team for Internationals.[20] Nick tells the dancers that they should all meet in Studio A, however he doesn’t specify why which leads to them speculating why he could have called them there. Eldon then arrives in Studio A and explains that Nick phoned him and made him the Internationals consultant for the team as they prepare for the competition. Nick is phoned by Eldon who tells him that everyone wants the dance captaincy in Kenzie’s absence, before both Ariana and Izzy tell him that they want to be considered for dance captain while he is on the phone to Nick.[21] Nick tells the team that they received a letter from Internationals that morning and whoever wins the Battle Royale and becomes dance captain gets the honour of opening the letter to discover what Internationals had planned for them. After Eldon explains the rules of the first round of a turning competition, Nick states that the Top five dancers will advance onto the next round of the competition. Nick explains that for the next round, Electric Eldon will be playing different types of music for the five candidates for Dance Captain to freestyle to. Eldon tells Nick that in order to test the creativity and leadership skills of the final three candidates, he will have each of them choreograph and present trios. Nick realises that they are a dancer short for this proposed idea to work, before Grace volunteers to be a member of one of the groups in order to even up the numbers.[22] Personality Nick is very kind and considerate, but can often come off as naïve. Nick is shown to have a stern side, especially seen when he angrily tells off Heath and Ozzy, but also a naïve and easily-manipulated side as seen when he opts out of telling A-Troupe to drop Dancemania upon seeing their hopeful faces. Additionally, Nick can be shown to be very irresponsible, seeing as he left the studio with no studio head or head choreographer, while having their dance captain Kenzie double-up in all roles.[23] Given that Kenzie had no prior experience to being a dance captain and was most likely still underage, this is particularly irresponsible, especially since he was absent for quite a long time and Kate stated in the past that there is no way that Riley would be able to juggle being studio head and be on A-Troupe,[24] thus indicating that Kenzie would also not be able to balance the two roles, especially since she had no seasoned A-Troupe veterans to help her, the way Riley had the help of James, Michelle, Amanda and Emily, and a dance captain in Skylar. However, Nick is always well-meaning and cares a lot about his dancers, even when they 'graduate' from The Next Step, as shown by him supporting him however he can, which usually means him just spending money on costumes and props[16] and investing in their shows.[25] Physical Appearance Characteristics Nick has brown eyes and fair skin. When compared to most other members of the show, Nick is significantly taller. Nick's hair is dark brown and short, often styled with a generic side-swipe. Attire Nick often wears quite casually formal clothing, sporting a wooly sweater and an often florally designed collar shirt underneath. He seemingly likes to be quite bold with his fashion, choosing very unconventional colours like maroon and lighter blues. Abilities Dancing Despite having a love for dance, Nick himself is not a proficient dancer or choreographer.[5] Nick himself has tried choreography but miserably failed at teaching it and the students had to make their own dance. Emily Despite not being best friends, Emily has begun to accept Nick as her new partner. Summer Summer and Nick have developed a strong relationship. Angela Angela and Nick have developed relationship over their love of Dancemania. Nick also offered Angela a job as a Dancemania coach. Trivia Nick is allergic to oysters.[4] Nick used to own a French lop-eared rabbit named Dennis.[4] Nick is a fan of Taylor Swift.[26] Ironically, in a podcast episode with Brennan Clost, who plays Daniel, Myles Dobson reveals that he is not a Swiftie.[27] Nick is a huge fan of Dancemania, and refers to himself as a "Dancemaniac".[28] He is also an avid watcher of Angela's (Baroness Von Dance's) Dancemania podcast. Nick is a fan of Scottie Sez's videos.[29]
