"Unlike you, I love my family. I love my sister. And I will do whatever it takes to protect this country that she lives in." - Yuri Briar ## Personality Yuri Briar, otherwise known as Second Lieutenant Briar, is the secondary antagonist of the Spy × Family franchise. He is the younger brother of Yor Forger who secretly works with the State Security Service, the Ostanian counterintelligence responsible for capturing spies on the country. He's the self-proclaimed arch-nemesis of the spy Twilight and is dedicated to capturing him and bringing him to justice. Ironically, Yuri is also the brother-in-law of Loid Forger who, unbeknownst to him, is actually the undercover identity of Twilight. Yuri is a recurring character in the series, who, while not always straight-up villainous, oftentimes antagonizes both Loid and the Forger family as a whole. Yuri is a young adult male of average height who sports a straight, neck-length hairstyle with uneven bangs. He bears a striking resemblance to his sister Yor, sharing her piercing red eyes, black hair, pale skin and similar facial structures. He's described as being quite attractive by other characters. While on duty, Yuri wears the standard SSS uniform, consisting of a green military suit and tie, high spout military boots and black leather gloves. The uniform also has a peaked cap stylized with the SSS emblem on its center. As a civilian, Yuri usually wears a black business suit over a white dress shirt with a blue tie underneath a khaki trench coat. Yuri is a gentle, soft-spoken individual who's generally considered good at talking with people. He usually presents himself with a cheerful and amusing attitude towards others. This charming personality of his is even noted by his boss, who describes him as "adorable like a puppy". Beneath this laid-back persona, Yuri also has a cruel, ruthless side that truly shows whenever he's interrogating people. Yuri is also rather patriotic and does whatever he can in order to assist his nation, Ostania, in capturing foreign spies, especially Agent Twilight, who he has a special hatred for. Yuri's most striking personality trait is his sister complex. He's overly attached to his sister, Yor, to an unhealthy degree and will usually go above and beyond in order "protect her". This is also the reason why he has a massive distrust for Loid Forger and is suspicious of his intentions with his sister, often getting confrontational whenever he's with him. Yuri also does everything to get his sister's approval, as he really looks up to her and considered Yor a maternal figure for most of his life. Much like his sister, Yuri also has an affinity for drinking. He usually will lose control of himself and chug several bottles of wine, especially under stress. While drunk, Yuri will usually get temperamental and not really think straight, as well as frequently make decisions based on his impulses which he regrets immediately after, showcased when he ordered Yor and Loid to kiss in front of him, but immediately regretted once the couple starts to prepare themselves for the kiss, shouting at them to stop. Despite having a rather morally questionable occupation and normally having an antagonistic role in the series, Yuri will oftentimes show some displays of genuine kindness (such as when he agreed to help Anya in her studies to become an Imperial Scholar) and sometimes, even having some heroic moments of his own like when he agreed to join the SSS operation to save his afromentioned adopted niece and her classmates from a bus hijacking by the Red Circus terrorist group. It's worth noting, however, that those two exemplified situations were either motivated directly by Yor, or by Yuri's gut feeling on how she would react to seeing her daughter get hurt, meaning he mostly does these acts for rather selfish reasons and only if they end up favoring his sister. Despite this, he still does showcase a genuine sense of honor sometimes, such as when he promised Franklin Perkin that the government would give his father financial support while he was in prision.
