Marvel Comics biggest fan turned Superhero ## Personality Backstory Gwendolyn "Gwen" Poole arrived to the Marvel Universe from what she claims to be "the real world". In her home reality, Gwen had been a comics superfan as an escape from her life as an unemployed 18 year-old high school dropout. Unwilling to be an "extra" in the Marvel world, she went to a tailor for superheroes and requested her own costume. The tailor (named Ronnie) complied, but misread Gwen's application form, and thought Gwen went by the alias of "Gwenpool", leading to a costume similar to Deadpool's. Upon gaining the ability to manipulate the borders of the fourth wall from an attempt to return her to reality, allowing her to travel in time, Gwen retcons the Marvel Universe into believing her to be a mutant after being given the idea by Kamala Khan, allowing her to enter the gates of Krakoa. Early Life Gwendolyn "Gwen" Poole was born in Brooklyn, New York and is the daughter of Ted and Martha Poole, the sister to Teddy Poole, Jr., and was born in the TRN565 universe. This Earth was different from others, where superheroes and supervillains were fictional characters that manifested through comics and other media. Gwen would drop out of high school when she was a teenager, and felt isolated due to her friends moving on with their lives and her being unable to find a profession. As a result, Gwen became addicted to comic books, reading them to ignore her problems and fantasize about becoming a superheroine. Personality Gwen Poole initially had little regard for any lives aside from her own, property damage, or anything that transpired that didn't affect her directly. This was a consequence of Gwen presently living in a universe she believes is entirely fictional. Gwen eventually learned to frown upon such unconcerned demeanor after meeting a version of herself from a future in which such disregard manifested in acting evil for the sake of it. Gwen's actions and decisions are heavily influenced by the fact she believes the universe doesn't operate in shades of grey, and it's ultimately ruled by storytelling devices and tropes. Powers and abilities Gwenpool originally had no real superpowers, only vast knowledge of the Marvel Universe from comic books in her universe, such as every secret identity of both heroes and villains. She has used this information to take down Black Cat's criminal empire[19] and to stop Thor from attacking her. She is able to exploit her fourth-wall knowledge to her advantage, understanding when comic-book tropes will allow her to avoid unpleasant or life-threatening consequences, such as falls that would realistically be lethal. She also seems to gain uncanny luck at dodging bullets and eluding enemies just by merit of being the hero of her story. Gwenpool is trained in weapons and hand-to-hand combat by Batroc during The Unbelievable Gwenpool vol. 2. She continued to train after she left Batroc and with her skills much improved, she was able to take out a group of minions by herself while on the West Coast Avengers using acrobatics and her katanas. Gwenpool is fully aware that she is in a comic, and can step out of and into comic panels, alter fictional characters, dump characters into the "gutter space" between panels, interact with word bubbles, and use her knowledge of the Marvel Universe to determine characters' weaknesses. In West Coast Avengers, Gwen notes she is not fully able to exploit the comics medium with her powers as she did in her own title, making her think it was part of a potential character reboot, noting that her powers are specifically no longer working quite as well when other people are watching her. Weaknesses Editorial Oversight: Gwen's powers are limited to what she would be editorially allowed to do. Because of this, the Trapster's exile to the Gutter Space was limited, and he mysteriously found himself back from there without even the memory of ever encountering Gwenpool. Trivia Gwen previously thought she could be bisexual. Gwen has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Gwen is left-handed and seemingly gifted at drawing super heroes. Back in her home universe, Gwen didn't read Deadpool's comics. She considered him to be "just a little too 'LOL memes'" for her taste. Gwen is the first openly Asexual and Aromantic Marvel character. The character was created from concept design of Spider-Gwen variants, with her being a combination of Spider-Gwen and Deadpool, which gained traction and allowed the writers to create her comics.
