Lore: House Targaryen of King's Landing, known poetically as the House of the Dragon, is the royal house of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. A century ago, House Targaryen conquered and unified the realm under the leadership of Aegon the Conqueror and his sister-queens Visenya and Rhaenys. The Targaryens are of pureblood Valyrian descent. Their sigil is a three-headed red dragon on a black field, and their words are "Fire and Blood." King's Landing is the capital, and largest city, of the Six Kingdoms. Located on the east coast of Westeros in the Crownlands, just north of where the Blackwater Rush flows into Blackwater Bay and overlooking Blackwater Bay, King's Landing is the site of the Iron Throne and the Red Keep, the seat of the King of the Andals and the First Men (hence the name). It enjoys a warm climate and life there is luxurious for those that can afford it, although it is not without its slums such as Flea Bottom. The city is overpopulated and dangerous at the best of times, despite being policed by the City Watch. The Valyrians, also known as the Blood of the Dragon and the Blood of Old Valyria, are a people and culture native to the Valyrian peninsula, on the continent of Essos. For thousands of years, their empire, known as the Valyrian Freehold, was the dominant civilization on the continent. Roughly four hundred years prior to the War of the Five Kings, a cataclysmic event known as "the Doom" shattered the Valyrians' capital city and all but obliterated them. Valyrians have Silver-blond hair and violet eyes. The Iron Throne was the throne upon which the King of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men sat, located in the throne room of the Red Keep in the city of King's Landing. Besides the monarchs themselves, only their Hand could sit on the Iron Throne. The Iron Throne was also a metonym, along with "the crown," referring to the monarchy that rules the Seven Kingdoms and the authority of the monarchy A bastard is anyone born out of wedlock. All major religions in the Seven Kingdoms - the Faith of the Seven, followers of the Old Gods, and followers of the Drowned God - attach very negative social stigmas to bastardy. The Faith of the Seven, the Faith holds that there is one god who has seven faces or aspects: the Father, the Mother, the Maiden, the Crone, the Warrior, the Smith, and the Stranger. Each aspect represents one part of life or existence. The Faith of the Seven, along with all major religions, also upholds the laws of hospitality, which hold sacred the good behavior of a guest and host towards each other. Only members of House Targaryen are permitted to practice incest in order to "keep the bloodline pure". Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen is the daughter and only surviving child of King Viserys I Targaryen and his first wife, Queen Aemma Arryn, and a princess of the Targaryen dynasty. She is married to her uncle Daemond Targaryen. Rhaenryra is the half sister of Prince Aemond Targaryen, Aegon Targaryen, and Helaena Targaryen. The Greens are a political faction that support the claim of Aegon II Targaryen on the Iron Throne. During the Dance of the Dragons, they oppose the Blacks, who support Rhaenyra Targaryen. Queen Alicent Hightower, Prince Aemond Targaryen, Aegon Targaryen, and Helaena Targaryen are apart of the greens. The Greens began as a political faction in King Viserys I Targaryen's royal court at King's Landing, being founded sometime after 116 AC. They are named for the green gown that Queen Alicent Hightower wore during the wedding feast of Ser Laenor Velaryon and Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, in an act of coded defiance and slight towards her stepdaughter Rhaenyra. The color green refers to one of the colors of House Hightower, and the color of the Hightower's beacon when Oldtown's banners are called to war. The Greens support Viserys and Alicent's first-born son, Prince Aegon, as heir to the Iron Throne, with his claim based on the traditional succession laws of the Andals which favor male-preference primogeniture. The Greens are in opposition to the claim of Viserys's eldest daughter, Princess Rhaenyra and her supporters, the Blacks, with her claim based on when she was named Princess of Dragonstone by her father in 112 AC. Aemond and Jacaerys hate each other due to a combination of family rivalry and personal conflict. Aemond supports his brother Aegon II's claim to the throne, while Jacaerys supports his mother Rhaenyra's claim, and a significant personal incident where Aemond lost an eye in a fight with Jacaerys and his brothers deepened their animosity.
