Kenzie is an acro, hip-hop[6] and contemporary[7] dancer on A-Troupe, as well as its former dance captain and currently on exchange program at L'Etoile Equipe. She is also Pete’s girlfriend. After Kenzie's former studio fails to qualify for Regionals, Kenzie is brought to A-Troupe by Angela.[8] ## Personality Before the show Season 6 episode 5 young kenzie Kenzie dances when she was younger. Kenzie started acro classes because she was told that it would help her with cheerleading but decided to pick up ballet, as it was a requirement to become a competitive dancer. She grew to like it and continued dancing, due to her proficiency as a dancer.[9] Kenzie somehow knew Lily and called her "The Shadow", due to her following Angela from studio to studio.[8] At some point, Kenzie attended a Nationals competition.[10] Kenzie joined a lesser-known studio. At the studio, her dancing abilities were underutilised.[11] Her former studio sent in a qualifier video for Regionals and did not qualify,[8] causing Kenzie to leave with Angela.[11] The Off Season: Season 2 Kenzie auditions for the Stacy Carpenter Scholarship and dances about one of her defining strengths: being both great and confident.[12] Season 6 6x01 kenzie introduced Kenzie is introduced to A-Troupe. Kenzie is introduced to A-Troupe, alongside Summer, Finn and Lily. Kenzie is said to be "great for pop and sizzle" by Angela and is asked by her to demonstrate the "correct" way to do acro after criticising Henry's.[8] Kenzie overhears Noah, Amy, Jacquie and Henry venting about their dislike of Angela. Although, at first, she is believed to be offended by what the four are saying, Kenzie reveals that she does not like Angela either.[8] Happy to be on the same page as the rest of A-Troupe,[8] Kenzie joins them in trying to get Angela fired.[13] Kenzie is quick to befriend Davis at the WildStylz convention[14] and eventually becomes best friends with her after she joins A-Troupe.[5] During her friendship with Davis, Kenzie is able to boost Davis' confidence.[5] Kenzie is one of the four candidates for the alternate spot at Regionals but is not chosen, much to her delight.[15] 6x21 kenzie Kenzie states that she is unwilling to give up her spot in the Regionals hip-hop dance for Davis. When offered a place at Encore with a guaranteed front and centre spot in all of the dances at Regionals by Lily, Kenzie is initially tempted to take the former's offer, despite deeming The Next Step her family and due to her lack of being in the spotlight at the latter, but is cut short by Davis who wants the spot. Kenzie is told by Jacquie that in order for Davis to stay at the studio, someone has to give up their spot in one of dances - something Kenzie is unwilling to do, due to her hard work to make it onto the hip-hop small group dance, upsetting Davis.[3] Kenzie is sad when Davis leaves the studio for Encore and is quick to blame Jacquie,[16] due to her helping Davis with her audition.[3] After holding a grudge against Jacquie, Kenzie eventually apologises to and forgives the former, after the team-building exercise of the escape room.[17] Kenzie apologises to Davis, due to her guilt about her not giving up a spot for her on the hip-hop routine. Kenzie makes up with Davis and reconsiders her as a best friend.[18] Kenzie performs in the hip-hop small group routine at Regionals, which helps result in The Next Step making it to the finals.[18] In addition, Kenzie dances in the finals routine[19] and the tiebreaker routine and is ecstatic when her team are made the victors of Regionals.[20] The Off Season: Season 3 Excited for Nationals, Kenzie dances in Studio A with the rest of A-Troupe.[21] Season 7 7x01 kenzie frenemy Kenzie suggests to Richelle that she can be her new frenemy. Kenzie notices that the fame of being the Face of Absolute Dance has gone to Richelle's head. To put her in her place, Kenzie vandalises Richelle's poster, much to the latter's chagrin. Kenzie owns up, after Richelle prepares to confront Summer and draw a moustache on her face. Wanting to keep Richelle's ego in check, Kenzie proposes that she becomes Richelle's frenemy, which Richelle agrees to. Kenzie keeps Ozzy's doctored poster of Richelle and confesses that she will reveal it when Richelle acts egocentric again.[22] Alongside Richelle as her new frenemy, Kenzie goes to Angela's studio, Encore Dance Studios, in order to find out more about Lily's true intentions at The Next Step. Kenzie finds out that Angela is barred from competing at any Absolute Dance events, following the events at Regionals, and comes to the conclusion that Lily has good intentions.[23] 7x03 kenzie helping Kenzie offers to assist Jude with learning the choreography. Kenzie is one of the three candidates for the new dance captain of A-Troupe. Kenzie proves herself worthy, in particular when she gives Jude one-to-one time when she is struggling with her choreography for the audition trio. Kenzie is disappointed, but not surprised, about ending up not getting the role of dance captain, due to Jude messing up her routine.[2] Kenzie is excited to go to Dancemania with A-Troupe. In the hotel, Kenzie is met by Richelle, who attempts to apologize to her. Angry and unwilling to listen to Richelle's excuses, Kenzie slams the door in the former's face.[24] Kenzie performs in the unsuccessful first group dance[25] but is happy when the team is resurrected.[26] When her team is disqualified following the finals performance at Dancemania, Kenzie is determined to compete at Nationals after her contract as a professional dancer is annulled.[27] Season 8 Following a vast majority of A-Troupe's decision to forfeit Nationals, Richelle and Ozzy watch one of TeaAra Bling's videos, before Richelle is asked by TeaAra to appear on one of her livestreams, under the guise of being given the opportunity to share A-Troupe's side of what happened at Dancemania, only to be prevented from doing so when Maria also appears and dancels The Next Step.[28] Richelle and Shad form Step Inside in order to combat The Next Step being dancelled by Maria. Kenzie performs a trio alongside Piper and Amy in the hope of supporting one another with becoming the soloist, yet Richelle and Shad witness a solo performed by and offer her the position of the soloist, yet Kenzie declines this offer as she is not ready to leave Nationals behind and instead asks Nick if she can become the Dance Captain of the new A-Troupe which Nick accepts.[29][30] Kenzie has Ethan, Jude and Ebby perform solos in order to determine who would be The Next Step’s Nationals soloist, with Ebby fighting for Kenzie's approval to perform an afro-fusion solo at Nationals, which makes Kenzie realise that the Dance captain diary won't always hold all of the answers, and realises that she should update it to include the importance of being yourself rather than changing in order to fit in with the accepts societal norms, and plans upon writing her own chapter in the diary during her time as dance captain, much to Ebby's delight.[31] Kenzie attends Step Inside's performance alongside Nick and his girlfriend Moxie Martinez who were Shad's old manager when he were a member of Radiation, Jude, Pete and Drew, and shares Step Inside's concerns when their mole Heath had seemingly been leaking further secrets to TeaAra Bling only to discover that this time he had lied that something would go wrong in order for her to fool her fanbase into watching the show, thus supporting The Next Step with becoming undancelled after having previously been dancelled by Maria.[32] Following Step Inside, Nick heads to Bora Bora in order to meet Moxie's family, however becomes stranded there for a brief period of time due to having lost his travel documents and needing to apply for new ones and as such Kenzie is left having to balance being dance captain and the relief Studio Head in his absence. It is revealed that following the success of Step Inside's performance, Moxie signed Richelle as a soloist, much like she had signed Finn as a new member of Radiation in order to replace Shad. Due to Richelle being signed, she is initially due to move away and as such Kenzie and A-Troupe throw her a surprise party which is gatecrashed by Lucien and Maria who have teamed up to resurrect Elite as Ultra Elite. After Grace leaves The Next Step in order to join Ultra Elite, Kenzie notices a new pro-division at Nationals, which can give the winning professionals home studio a bonus five points prior to the duet round.[33] Heath later returns to the studio and wants to become a member of A-Troupe following Grace’s departure to Ultra Elite, so Kenzie places him on a trial period by performing a duet alongside Daisy something which she also had both Anthony and Izzy, and Xander and Jett choreograph, however Xander replaced Jett with Ethan as she had to babysit her brother Bobby. Anthony and Izzy and Heath & Daisy both perform their duets for Kenzie who selects Heath and Daisy’s therefore allowing him back onto A-Troupe.[34] As Richelle wants to help take down Lucien and Maria, she decides that she will attend the pro-division qualifier with the aim of becoming The Next Step's pro-division soloist.[35] Before Nationals it was initially planned for a solo by Richelle with its footage edited by Lily to be used for the Hype'dIn Challenge, yet eventually this plan is scrapped and replaced with a video of Kenzie performing a solo filmed by Pete, with this solo allowing for the team to reach the top 3 studios within the Hype'dIn Challenge despite being ranked 63rd in the SNR Network's pre-Nationals power ranking.[36] After Ebby’s afro-fusion solo lost to Cleo's solo at Nationals, Ebby began to believe that she let the team down due to failing to secure the five bonus points going into the small group round, and Kenzie attempted to assure her that this is not the case and how she were right to want to be herself rather than fit in with the social norms often represented at Nationals through the Nationals soloist round. Ebby initially disbelieves what Kenzie had told her, until she is commended on her solo by Aliya from the East-Coast division of AcroNation, who expressed interest in bringing Afro-fusion to AcroNation as the studio and its many divisions were attempting to have a wider outreach than just acro, which were the reason why Cleo had joined the team after being offered the opportunity to do so by Eldon.[37] Kenzie is featured in each of The Next Step’s Nationals routines, due to the fact that Dylan did not perform in the small group round out of fear that they could have put the team’s placement in the competition in jeopardy due to being the sister of guest judge Margo Marshall, and as such a panicked Kenzie rushed onto the stage in order to take her place, despite Jude’s protests that it should be her doing so rather than Kenzie as she was the alternate. Aside from this Kenzie had always been featured in both the large group routine and the Final routine though.[38] Richelle wins the pro-division. Due to winning the pro-division and Heath and Daisy's duet scoring 88 points, plus 5 bonus points the team tie for first place with Ultra Elite. As a result of this an angered Lucien steals all of The Next Step’s costumes and props and informs Kenzie that he won’t return them unless she becomes dance captain of Ultra Elite the following dance season. Kenzie initially struggles with what to do, yet is pushed to confide in Heath who tells her that she should let the team know so that they could help to come up with a solution, which she ultimately does. Anthony and Jude teach the new A-Troupe his Hype'dIn choreography at the last minute so that they could compete against Ultra Elite in the final rather than forfeit as would have otherwise been the case.[39][40] After winning Nationals, A-Troupe celebrate in Studio A, before seeing Ultra Elite was closed down by Maria via a video posted to Hype'dIn by Grace. Grace then returns to The Next Step and asks for Kenzie’s help.[41] Season 9 Kenzie informs Jude that she has had Winnie agree to select a B-Troupe dancer to join A-Troupe in order to fulfil Dylan’s vacant spot on the team. She then calls Anthony over and informs him that she is giving both him and Jude the shared responsibility of being Internationals choreographers for the team. Kenzie agrees to help Ultra Elite at Grace and Ariana’s request by giving them a place to rehearse, which backfires when the pair find out about Winnie promoting a B-Trouper up to to A-Troupe as the pair are able to convince her to request Kenzie hold auditions for the final member of the team.[42] After noticing that Kenzie is stressed, both Grace and Ariana provide her a self care gift of an hour at a spa in order to mess with the A-Troupe auditions. Grace lies to Winnie and informs her that Kenzie phoned to move the A-Troupe auditions to the following day, while in reality Ultra Elite could rehearse and prepare for the auditions. When Kenzie returns Grace lies to her and states that B-Troupe didn’t show up for the auditions and how she thought Ultra Elite should take advantage of the studio, before she and Ultra Elite perform a routine for Kenzie. Grace later confesses that she lied to Winnie and informed her that the A-Troupe auditions had been postponed as she wanted Kenzie to see how good Ultra Elite were away from Lucien.[43] Before the auditions for A-Troupe, Pete informs Kenzie that he broke up with her as his grandpa passed away and he didn’t want to burden her with this information earlier. Pete informs Kenzie that he isn’t ready to talk about it yet and how him being at The Next Step Dance Studio and dancing for A-Troupe was the reason why he couldn’t be there for his grandpa. Kenzie offers to postpone auditions or let Pete audition by himself if he still needed time to grieve, however he informs her that he wasn’t seeking any kind of special treatment and but wanted to make her aware of his situation.[44] With Eldon helping to judge the A-Troupe auditions, Nick feels deflated as everyone flocked to Eldon in order to ask for his advice and as such he began questioning his value to the studio. Kenzie reassures Nick that he is a valuable asset to the team and informs him that without his presence she highly doubts she’d be able to do her job as dance captain and as such there was no need for him to be attempting to emulate somebody who he’d never be like such as Eldon.[45] Kenzie informs A-Troupe that Internationals will consist of a one-on-one country versus country livestream from all over the world, instead of all the countries meeting in one location, alongside how each country will be paired with a sister country and they will compete in a series of challenges for the Internationals trophy. Kenzie tells Izzy and Ebby that The Next Step’s sister studio is the French studio L'Equipe Etoile who placed runner-up in the 18th Annual Absolute Dance Internationals. Kenzie tells the pair that the first Internationals challenge is to make a care package of items which they believe represent their individual country to send to their sister studio.[46] Kenzie tells Anthony, Ariana, Jett and Niall that the first Internationals Challenge of a small group against their sister studio will be happening the next day. Kenzie outlines her idea of the theme being going for Gold to highlight the teams desire to become Internationals Champions, before stating she would go and meet up with Lily for tips on directing the video for the routine. As she leaves, Ariana tells Jett that she thinks that she could easily come up with a better theme for the routine then the one that Kenzie had outlined. Upon Kenzie’s return, she sees the dancers performing Jett’s impractical concept for the routine as the group agreed it should be used and talks with Anthony to change it back to her concept. After this conversation, Jett calls out Kenzie for being egotistical and changing the routine back to her own concept, before being sent to The Locker Room to cool down. Despite this, Jett still displays an attitude towards Kenzie due to her concept for the routine being utilised and as such Kenzie removes her from the routine.[47] Both Pete & Kenzie later replace Jett in the livestream challenge dance against sister studio L'Equipe Etoile. Kenzie attempts to re-assure Ariana after she messes up the choreography for the routine, whilst unaware that she did so purposefully in order to sabotage the team by Grace’s request. Ariana intends to inform Kenzie about how she intentionally messed up the choreography to sabotage the routine, however Kenzie gets a message stating the mystery prize for the French team who won the challenge was to be revealed in Studio A. Upon the pairs return it’s revealed that the mystery prize is the French team getting to pick who they’d send on the exchange program and who they would select for the exchange program from The Next Step, before it’s revealed that they selected Kenzie to go on the exchange program to France.[48] Kenzie tells Pete that she is stressed as she has a lot of loose ends to take care of for the benefit of the team before she goes to France. Jett follows Ariana’s advice and finds Kenzie to apologise for losing her temper with her, changing the livestream choreography and expressing herself in a destructive manner before she is forgiven for this. Kenzie meets with Pete in Cha-Cha’s and intends to tell him that she wants to rekindle their relationship, however as Pete is worried about the time zone difference and how they’ll communicate when she’s in France she begins to fear that they’re not on the same page. Kenzie tells Heath that she told Pete she was alright with them just being friends when in reality she wanted to rekindle their relationship, however she feared Pete no longer having feelings for her or something happening while she’s away in France and everything changes between the pair. Heath tells Kenzie that you can’t wait to tell people how you really feel and implores her to confess her feelings for him before she leaves for France. Kenzie herself is afraid to do this, however Pete meets her in Studio A before she takes her flight to France and the pair rekindle their relationship.[49] Personality Kenzie has a smart mouth and is very confident, sometimes verging on being full of herself. In addition, she lacks a filter and says what is on her mind, causing her to be bad at keeping secrets.[1] However, Kenzie claims to always try and see the good in people,[3] and is also very helpful to people whom she cares about; she notably helps Davis become more "beastly" instead of "beauty" despite competing for the same spot in the Regionals hip-hop routine, something that Jacquie refused to do for her own sister.[5] 6x22 kenzie Kenzie holds a grudge against Jacquie. Despite her friendliness, Kenzie is also prone to holding grudges and does not forgive people easily. She blames Jacquie for encouraging Davis to leave The Next Step and continues to pick fights with her, despite the latter attempting to make up with her.[16] Furthermore, when she is being apologized to by Richelle for abandoning the team, Kenzie slams the door in her face before the latter is able to explain herself.[24] Kenzie is not above doing things that are wrong to others, if she believes that it is best for them, as shown when she draws a moustache on Richelle's poster featuring her as the Face of Absolute Dance. However, she is also quick to own up to her actions and does not let others take the blame for them; she speaks up when Richelle initially blames Summer for Kenzie's vandalism.[22] Kenzie is diligent, shown when she is willing to help Jude one-to-one with the choreography for the auditions for the alternate spots on A-Troupe.[2] Kenzie is interested in science, to the point that she attends space camp and has been in a space shuttle.[17] Physical appearance Characteristics Kenzie has dark skin and dark brown eyes. She has black hair, which is long and braided in Season 6,[12] and shoulder-length and curly in Season 7.[21] Attire When dancing, Kenzie usually wears a tank top accompanied with black leggings. In Season 6, she mainly wears shades of purple and dark blue; in Season 7, she starts wearing yellow.[21] Abilities Dancing Acro: Acro is Kenzie's dominant style of dance, at which she is proficient. Her acro ability has been commended by Angela[8] and Michelle.[9] Ballet: Ballet is not Kenzie's strongest style. Hip-hop: Kenzie's other dominant style of dance is hip-hop[6] and has proclaimed that she is hip-hop.[51] Kenzie's hip-hop ability has been commended by Angela.[8] She has performed in Leon Blackwood's hip-hop dance at the WildStylz convention,[11] and her performance in LaTroy's hip-hop dance[5] leads to her being featured the hip-hop round at Regionals, the latter leading to The Next Step's victory.[18] Languages French: Kenzie can speak French. She, alongside Davis, teaches Kingston French and successfully helps him improve in the language.[52] Other Physical Boxing: Kenzie regularly goes boxing with her father.[5] Trivia Kenzie's locker in the locker room is number 4.[5] Kenzie's father used to own a diner.[52] Kenzie can speak French.[52]
