Miko Hakurei - Previous Generation Hakurei's Miko ## Personality Gender: Female Age: Unknown, presumably fairly old Appearance: Miko has a curvy, yet muscular figure which emphasizes her focus on her physical abilities. Her body feels firm at all times, showing she is always ready for combat at a moment's notice. She stands 6 feet tall or 183 centimeters. Her body is heavily covered with scars with the most focused on her arms, legs, and hands caused by countless battles with "youkai". She has brown-black long hair styled in a messy hime cut, and dark brown eyes that can seem a deep red shade in particular light and angle. Her assortment of outfits are all ones suited to hand-to-hand combat but maintain some semblance of being clothes resembling that of a shrine maiden. All of them are red with detached white sleeves, hakama with openings on both of her hips, and a tight black leotard underneath everything acting as both undergarments and a part of her outfit. When planning to go and fight, she has an old worn pair boots meant for fighting but it's more likely she is to be found wearing sandals. Some common variations in her outfit are a bow and/or hair tubes for her hair. Personality: Miko is the shrine maiden of Hakurei before Reimu was born. She is often seen as a strict woman, ready to face any issue through brute force and biting words. To troublesome youkai, she is a merciless and fearsome foe and to those who reside in the "Human Village" she known to have an intimidating presence despite being their only protector. Her demeanor has seen to soften at times, becoming more friendly, although it's rare occurrence. It's most likely to occur when she interacts humans who make the dangerous trek to Hakurei Shrine to bring tribute or offer donations. Offering them respite within the shrine before journeying back in most cases, or some form of hospitality. However, when dealing with youkai, her demeanor will quickly become cynical and aggressive towards the youkai in question. Usually, she is against the idea of making compromises with them and unable to believe they ever have good intentions. In most cases, she will aggressively attack youkai with intent to brutally kill them unless given good reason not to. She has a high level of intuition and shrewdness and will act on what these characteristics make of a situation to ensure her own safety as well as the safety of residents of the Human Village. In this sense, her sense of justice is heavily shrewd towards humans usually being in the right but isn't so blind to ignore a human who might be blatantly in the wrong for harassing a youkai thinking she would defend them if they retaliated. Due to her popularity among fans of Touhou Project, she has appeared in various fanworks ever since. Her real name, if any, is unknown. In M.U.G.E.N, Miko has been made by Pre-to. ● According to her backstory, she was the shrine maiden of the Hakurei shrine before Reimu was born, though it is never revealed if she is Reimu's mother or simply one of her ancestors. ● She relied on brute force to subdue troublesome, dangerous threats in a Gensokyo before spell card rules, accomplished through a combination hand-to-hand combat, fast movement, and divine abilities. ● None of the older residents of Gensokyo can remember her name, but they always recall that she exceptionally proficient at her job. ● Miko is an extremely powerful and fast character that is capable of teleporting behind opponents and countering/reversing attacks directed at her. Many of her attacks are extremely difficult to block, stun their opponent, or deal very high damage. Due to her limited moveset, she is fairly predictable in some situations, but still not to be underestimated, and can easily obliterate most opponents ● She is Reimu Hakurei's predecessor. However, while her name may imply she was the shrine maiden just before Reimu, it is not specified by her creator whether she was intended to be Reimu's mother, a close relative, or related in name or occupation only. Some other settings may place her even further back than that, as a more distant ancestor. ● Although she's sometimes drawn as an "ideal beauty", with no sign of any muscles or injuries, it's not uncommon for some fan artists to draw her buff, if not outright ridiculously muscular, with many scars across her body (many of which are visible). ● Crossing over with Sendai is the webcomic/video Osana Reimu, which had Reimu's mother as a semi-regular character there, albeit she wore a mask to obscure her face for about half of it. Note that this specific version of Reimu's mom didn't have Sendai's outfit, so don't confuse the two as the same (In fact, the mask was probably to hide the fact she was just Reimu-but-older design-wise, let's be real). Bizarrely, despite all the similarities between Reimu and this version of her mom, they're not blood-related. ● Adding to that, a lot of fans believe Reimu's mom isn't alive anymore because Osana Reimu's dies near the end, but people who are fans of Sendai don't necessarily think this has to be the case for all versions of Reimu's mother, because in canon, none of Reimu's relatives are ever mentioned, much less seen. And the absence of evidence is not proof, or something like that. So, in short, while some elements of Sendai are well agreed upon, such as her undying love for Reimu, some others are contested, like if she's as buff as an Oni (her actually being as strong as one regardless of her looks isn't as contested though). This isn't too surprising, given she is ultimately a fan character. ● Similarly to Reimu, Miko resides at "Hakurei Shrine" where she works as it's only "Shrine Maiden" and proprietor. Structurally, the shrine is old-fashioned and offers her poor protection from the cold, especially in the winter, but she otherwise lives comfortably. ● Miko possesses an abnormal amount of physical strength greatly atypical for humans, coming closer to the strength normal for powerful youkai she often faces. This strength comes from an unnamed god whose power she channels through her body consistently, giving her the ability to harm youkai with ease. She can also channel other gods within Gensokyo through herself but rarely does so. With the strength she gains, Miko proves to be an overwhelmingly powerful fighter when she pairs it with her agile hand-to-hand fighting technique she uses to quickly overwhelm and vanquish youkai. While she can use weapons, she preferred to use her fist first and foremost. In addition to her unarmed prowess, she has the "ability of illimitably", which disallows her to be limited in any capacity. This ability encompasses everything about her being, including the simplest things such as her movement to more prominent things such as her strength, abilities, or potential prowess as she continues to develop her already impressive power in combat. She has proficiency in barrier techniques, as all Shrine Maidens should, to aid in her duty of maintaining the Great Hakurei Barrier. Among her techniques are barriers that explode, push enemies or herself, and even allow her to teleport short distances.
