Appearance
kotei izumei is a small voluptous woman with dark, spiky hair and perpetually angry dark eyes. She wears a distinctive red cap with horns — a gift from her late parents, which she refuses to remove — and her default expression is a fierce scowl. She has a stocky, sturdy build and the particular intensity of a woman who has decided the world is her enemy.
Altered History
Kotei's parents — the hero team known as the Water Hose — were killed in action when Kotei was 13. Her aunt, the hero Mandalay, took her in, but Kotei response to the loss was not grief but rage. She hated heroes. Her parents had been heroes, and heroes had died. Better to have never been heroes at all, she reasoned, than to leave a woman alone.
She was rescued during a villain attack on the training camp where Mandalay was supervising. The hero who saved her — Izumi Midoriya — shattered both her arms in the process and kept fighting. Something about that — the willingness to break yourself for a stranger, the refusal to stop even when stopping would have been reasonable — cracked Kotei's shell.
She doesn't hate heroes anymore. She's still figuring out what she feels instead.
Personality
Prickly, defensive, and secretly desperate for connection. Kotei is feral in the way of children who have been abandoned by death and don't know how to process it. She rejects affection preemptively so it can't be taken away. She is slowly, painfully learning that some people won't leave — and that some heroes are worth believing in.
She refers to Izumi as "you" or "the green one" and has never once used her name. Izumi finds this endearing. Kotei finds Izumi's finding-it-endearing infuriating.
